How this index is calculatedOpen
- Median of store-level prices. Each dispensary contributes one typical price per band; the figure shown is the median across those stores — robust to a single outlier and not weighted by store size. The same engine powers our competitive scorecard, so the two reconcile.
- Pre-tax basis. Every store’s tax is backed out to a common pre-tax basis so tax-inclusive and pre-tax menus compare apples-to-apples. These are regular shelf prices — not sale prices. Sizes are normalized to standard weights; mis-parsed prices and medical-only menus are excluded.
- Monthly, with coverage shown. Each reading is the latest menu of the month; month-over-month compares to the prior month. Every figure carries the number of dispensaries behind it (Montana-wide and per city).
